Global Insights / Research & development

Knowledge travels.
Every place
teaches something.

Geothermal-rich countries hold more than energy resources. Their practitioners, institutions, and operating experience can help shape what comes next.

Firsthand learning / Fiji

A visit to Fiji brought insights from university professors and referrals to other experts around the Pacific Rim. Those conversations are part of the learning behind our development work.

Kenya

Energy & industrial development

Bring productive activity closer to the resource.

At Olkaria, KenGen is developing a Green Energy Park around geothermal power, land, water, and industrial infrastructure. Its March 2026 announcement of an additional investor describes a planned steel logistics and fabrication center—a concrete example of connecting geothermal resources with industrial demand.

What this means for development

A resource can help attract an industry when the surrounding infrastructure and commercial conditions also fit. For Aero, the development task includes understanding what businesses could grow alongside an anchor customer.

Indonesia

Power, useful heat & cooling

Look at the full range of thermal needs.

The Future of Geothermal in Indonesia examines cooling and industrial heat alongside electricity generation. Developed by Project InnerSpace and the Institute for Essential Services Reform, with contributors from Indonesian institutions, it brings resource assessment together with workforce, community, and policy questions.

What this means for development

Our reading is to begin with the useful service: the temperature a process needs, the timing of a cooling load, or the demand for electricity. A resource map can guide investigation; a project still needs local measurements and a customer case.

India

Geothermal & digital infrastructure

Site power and cooling with the digital customer.

Project InnerSpace’s India research considers geothermal electricity and cooling in relation to data-center growth. It connects resource locations with digital infrastructure and notes that ground-based cooling in hotter climates may need hybrid designs with heat pumps or dry coolers.

What this means for development

For development, the implication is to screen the resource, cooling balance, fiber access, and customer requirements together. A promising subsurface resource becomes more useful when it aligns with an actual digital or industrial location.

Carry the knowledge.
Respect the context.

The goal is a continuing exchange with experienced practitioners. Each new project needs to establish what transfers—and what the place requires us to reconsider.

Operating experience

Understand the everyday work.

Resource behavior, maintenance, spare parts, staffing, and recovery from disruption shape a project long after commissioning.

Development conditions

Test the local economics.

Customer demand, financing, infrastructure, and delivery capacity determine whether an approach can be put to work in another place.

Local priorities

Build with the people affected.

Community expectations, access to services, and opportunities for participation belong in the project from its earliest stages.
